All too often, films like this one become the only interaction the general public has with ancient Egypt, something even more true since the Egyptian Revolution in 2011, when international tourism to Egypt has been at an all time low. For this review we thought we’d do what Egyptologists do best: talk about ancient Egypt. The Mummy has already received countless reviews for you to peruse in terms of its casting, cinematography, plot holes, and lack of Brendan Fraser (although the Book of Amun-Re from the 1999 film does make an appearance!). Tom Cruise stars in the latest reboot playing the charming boy-scoundrel Nick Morton who, while stationed in Iraq, seizes the opportunity to hunt for antiquities. I hope this was a reminder that you are not either. The Mummy, released last month (June 9th, 2017) in the USA and Canada, is the latest in the long-established franchise that started in 1932. Thank you for the reminder that I am not alone. I am encouraged by your prayers and empathy. That I am honored and humbled that you all have shared your raw and vulnerable stories with me. I don't have the capacity to respond to every comment but please know that I have read every one. Vulnerable stories of grief, love, and resilience. Over the last week this post has been shared by others on multiple platforms and garnered over 500,000 reactions, shares, and comments. And shoutout to the men who have even less space in their lives to grieve or be exhausted or cry on someone's shoulder. Shoutout to the women who so often bear these burdens. On days when you ask, "Hey! How are you?" and I smile and say "I'm good!' On days when I'm group chatting my family during a staff meeting. On days when I cry in the morning but boss up for that work presentation. I don't talk about it every day but I think about it every day. The ones who can't quite name the reason but the tears come anyway. The ones navigating a devastating personal loss.

The ones caring for sick parents or sick children. Then "put on the mask" and were office ready by 9. Shoutout to the ones who cried in the shower this morning at 8:40 AM, cried so hard that their body shook.
